Dutchman's Breeches Tote

$25.00
Sold Out

My favorite spring ephemeral flower of the year! More info on this cute lil’ flower below.

No joke—this tote bag rocks. I didn’t know I could feel so passionately about a tote bag. 100% canvas cotton. It feels larger than the average tote bag with 32" long handles with 16" drop. Gusset bottom. I love it.

Hand drawn by me and screen printed in Burlington, VT by Pepo Press.

A little bit about Dutchman’s Breeches:

  • Dutchman’s Breeches (Dicentra cucullaria) get their common name because their flowers look like little white pantaloons with a yellow waistband drying on a clothesline

  • They’re a member of the Bleeding Heart genus

  • They can be found throughout eastern North America, in rocky moist woods, ravines, along streams, slopes and valleys

  • They are likely to grow abundantly on forest floors that have been undisturbed–but also, under and around the propane tank in my backyard

  • The flower is poisonous to cows and the most common symptom of poisoning is staggering, which is why some farmers refer to it as “staggerweed”. Dairy cows also experience a decrease in milk production- You should never pick native wildflowers but especially not these since their flowers will wilt immediately

  • They’re so cute I just can’t

Ordering is open through Sunday, March 24th, then we’ll be closed up until the summer solstice!

All orders will be shipped/available for local pick-up by March 27th.
